New Zealand: Health
New Zealand has an excellent health system. A list of local healthcare
providers can be found in the front section of the telephone directory.
Overseas visitors who are injured in an accident are covered by New Zealand’s
accident compensation scheme, which will pay for medical and hospital expenses.
Any other medical conditions must be paid for, and health insurance is
advisable for visitors to the country.
Pharmacies offer free advice on health matters but a doctor’s prescription is
needed to obtain certain medication. A visit to the doctors will cost around
NZ$50 for an adult, less for children. In an emergency, dial 111 and ask for an
ambulance.
